The Coffee Concept

As you are holding a delicious cup of coffee, enjoying the aroma and the taste, someone comes along and bumps your arm, making you spill your coffee…everywhere!  Why did you spill your coffee?  Is it because someone ran into you?  Of course, we would assume that that was the case. Cause = reaction.  But what if you spilled the coffee simply because there was coffee in your cup?  If there was tea in your cup, you would have spilled tea.  If there was juice in your cup, you would have spilled juice.  You see, whatever is inside of the cup, is what will spill out.

Life is much like this.  When things happen that shake us, or we make choices and decisions that have repercussions (and there always are), whatever is inside of you will come out.  If you are bursting with love, joy, and gratitude, that will flow out of you and affect all those around.  If you are bursting with shame, fear, worry or anger that too will flow out of you and affect all those around.  It is easy to fake it, until you get rattled.  So we have to ask ourselves, “what is in my cup?” When our lives get full and tough, what spills over?  Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility? Or anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions? You get to choose what fills your cup. You get to manage the state of your cup and what you choose to carry with you.  Today, let’s find ways to fill our cups with the good stuff, so that even when it does spill over, we make and leave a “good” mess around us.
