Have you ever found yourself in a position where you are afraid to speak up or make a decision because of what other people might think of you? Have you ever been so caught up in how others might think or feel about you that you say or do the thing that doesn’t feel right to you but think that it is what is expected of you? Only then to find yourself feeling disappointed in yourself and struggling to justify your actions within your own mind? Isn’t it funny how when we say or do what we think the right thing is that in the end we create more inner turmoil for ourselves? What a conundrum!
For those close to me, you’ve likely heard me say “it’s none of my business what other’s think of me.” You see, others see me through their own filters and life experience. I am fully aware that I am not everyone’s cup of tea. And that is okay. I can’t be all things, to all people, all the time. That isn’t my purpose here. I have no control over what someone chooses to think of me or how they choose to feel about me. So when I show up in all my authentic glory, confident in my heart, it doesn’t matter how others see me. At the end of the day, I have to go to sleep with myself, I unwind my day and have to live with my choices and actions. I live in my skin, I am the creator of my circumstances, the driver of my journey, the designer of my destiny.
If I were to let what I think others think of me influence me, then THEY hold all my power – they create my circumstances, determine my path and shape my destiny – and I want NO part of that. Call me a control freak, but I choose to live on MY terms.
I’m not sure that we can truly THRIVE in life if we aren’t in the driver’s seat of our own lives. This week, we are encouraged to let go of the notion that we have the power to think we know what others might think or feel about us (we are probably wrong anyway) and instead embrace our inner power to release self-judgement and make choices that empower us to live in our authenticity. Let’s choose to THRIVE in our own way…and enjoy, I mean really enjoy, every minute of it!
