February 6, 2023 Finding the Well in Wellness

Our perspective or our mindset is everything when it comes to our wellness.  Even when we are in the midst of diagnosis, pain, disease processes or other physical challenges we have a choice in how we choose to see our experience and how we feel about our experience. How we see and feel has a direct relationship to how we show up/act/react/engage in our experience.

Have you heard of Nick Vujicic? He is an inspirational Australian man who was born without arms and legs, instead he was born with two small feet one of which has two toes. One can only imagine the struggles he faced growing up with severe physical limitations. As a young child, he attempted suicide, but the love of his parents prevented him from following through. He persevered, learning how to brush his own teeth, wash dishes, use a computer, shave and even write with a pen.  He played in a marching band as a teenager, golfs, swims and has even been skydiving! Nick has dedicated his life to sharing the power of mindset. He once said,

“…sometimes in life, you might fall down and can’t find the strength to get back up…do you think you have hope? Because I tell you, I’m down here and I have no arms and no legs,  …it should be impossible for me to get up, but it’s not.”

We can go through the most difficult challenges and darkest moments of life, but it doesn’t mean that we have to stay there.  There is always something to be grateful for, there are lessons all around us.  There is purpose and meaning in our lives.  You see, nothing has any meaning in life except the meaning we choose to give it.

This week, we are encouraged to commit to our own wellness by starting with addressing our mindset. To be well, we must think well. We can lift the weights, eat the healthy options, move our bodies, do our regular check-ups with health professionals – in fact, even if we do all the things, and neglect our mindset, we will eventually end up in a state of dis-ease. When we choose healthy thoughts and powerful emotional states of being, we are essentially triggering all the cells in our body to perform in a state of wellness – regardless of the reality of our experience at any moment.

Friends, this is a journey. It isn’t an overnight fix. There isn’t a quick fix for mindset – being mindful is a practice, it’s an art. This week, let’s find the light within our experience to let our bodies know that we are willing to be well and commit to the search for our wellness. If this feels daunting to you, start with gratitude.  Being thankful for what we already have creates space for more of it. And science shows that the feeling of gratitude chemically triggers the cells in our bodies into a harmonious and balanced state. It’s a perfect place to start.

What are you grateful for today?

XO Juli
