Healing Looks Different Every Day

There is no straight or direct line to wellness. In my experience, we zig and we zag as we progress forward. Some days it feels like we are making tremendous progress, and sometimes it feels like we are moving so slow that we are going backwards. Sometimes, it feels like we stall altogether, halting on a plateau somewhere in the abyss. My point is that it is okay for it to look different every day.

Stress is abundant in our lives and the constant barrage of external stimuli from the busyness of life and the heaviness of the news/media has an impact on our internal world and ability to heal. What does that actually mean? Well, for those of us who are working hard to find our well, it means that our situations are just a little more complicated and we may experience more of the zig-zags. For those who don’t have underlying health conditions, it means that the body, mind and spirit need a little extra love and support in order to find our natural homeostasis. Prolonged stressors are hard on even the healthiest body, mind and spirit.

It is important to be gentle with ourselves. To create time and space in our day that we can spend in a non-stressful space in order to allow our body, mind and spirit to be in an environment that will translate to our internal world that we are safe, loved and peaceful.

What does that look like?

It looks like fresh air, time in nature, time with family and friends. It might be reading a book in the sunshine, sitting by a campfire, cuddling with your beloved, having your hands in the dirt, listening to an audiobook or podcast. It might mean meditation, yoga, exercise, counselling, coaching or preparing healthy meals. It might be chatting with your best friend, daydreaming or researching those places you want to travel and explore.

The possibilities are endless.

The key is that we put ourselves in a state daily that is healthy, calm, loving and free of drama and stress. We all know what those things are for us – this is simply a reminder to engage in them again…or more. This week we are reminded to make choices that allow for better health – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. The best time for self-care is NOW.

Be gentle.

You are worth it.
