December 7, 2020 Finding the Well in Wellness Cards by Juli Conard, Art by Faith Myers

It’s NOT okay to give at the expense of myself.

“I choose to engage in boundaries that honour self. My wellness has a direct impact on my ability to serve others.  Just because I CAN do it, doesn’t mean that I HAVE to do it. I am willing to shift my mindset and choices to be responsible for my mental, physical, and emotional well-being.”

This is a giving season. A time where we give gifts, share time, exchange baking, share meals…a time of togetherness.  And although things look different and certainly feel different this holiday season, our hearts will remain connected as we each embrace the true meaning of the season, whatever that is for each of us.

Although this card is in reference to where we spend our energy and how we use it as a currency for any number of things in life, this week it reminds us the importance of making decisions that are in the best interest of ourselves and our families, right now.  Let’s face it.  Change is hard and no one likes it.  But it is in these times of change that there is room for us to grow and expand our ways of thinking. There will be some traditions that we will continue to honour and there will be some that will be adapted to happen during these pandemic times, and there will be some that will be canceled altogether.  As we choose what to let go of and what to hang on to, let’s take a minute and contemplate our intentions behind the choices we are making.

Are we choosing more stress or less?

Are we making choices that promote our well-being?

Are we honouring our heart or are we succumbing to guilt?

Are we honouring tradition or are we feeling pressured in responsibility?

Are we making decisions that support our emotional and mental health?

Listen, the answers are going to be different for everyone – and that is the beauty of our uniqueness.  This holiday season, despite everything that is going on with the world, let’s be willing to let go where we need to, embrace where and what we need to and most importantly, let’s give in a way that honours ourselves.  We will be stronger for it…and in the end, everyone will be happier for it.
