August 28, 2023 Let Go

I have to admit that one of my biggest pet peeves in life is when someone says “Just let it go!” – I mean, if I knew how to let it go, I would have done it already. That statement isn’t helpful at all – I know I need to let it go, sometimes I just don’t know how. Can you relate?

The old baggage we carry around, all those unresolved issues, past hurts and pains, losses and grievances…they are all clutter in our heart.  They are taking up precious room where more joy, laughter and love could reside.  This very baggage constructs walls around our heart, blocking the flow of good things in and out of our life.  This week, we are encouraged to let the baggage go.

One of the things I have realized is that every situation, relationship, hurt, unresolved issue has a different pathway of release. No two “let go’s” are the same.  It’s important to remember that everything in life is temporary and that this too shall pass. We are not static beings, but ever changing and in constant flow.

Keeping that in mind, letting go looks different for each of us and we will only do it when we are ready and it is ripe. How do we get that baggage to ripen?  We contemplate it, journal it, write a letter of forgiveness, find gratitude for the lessons learned, hold a burn ceremony, run it out, scream it out, hug a tree, talk about it with a trusted and close friend or a professional.  We must be willing to find a way that works for us.  Let’s commit to make more room in our heart, commit to take down some of those walls and barricades and boundaries, commit to allow love to flow more freely in and out of our lives. We are worth it.  And so are all the others who benefit from the love we share.
