“Meaning doesn’t lie in things; meaning lies in us. When we attach value to things that aren’t love – the money, the car, the house – we’re loving things that can’t love us back. We’re searching for meaning in the meaningless and this will always cause pain.”
How often do we look for fulfilment outside of ourselves? How often do we turn to food, shopping, the bottle, drugs, social media, sex or other external influences to distract from whatever it is that we are feeling and don’t want to be feeling? I’m going to go out on a limb here and say, OFTEN. It is short term gain when we look to our outside world to feel better. We are being called upon this week to slow down and take a look at what we are actually valuing in our lives. How are we feeling, and what is important to us? When we place meaning in the external world instead of investing in our internal world and our relationships we are more apt to feel fulfilled as we aim for the long term gain. Let us be aware this week, as to what we are “attaching” to, why we are doing it, and acknowledge room for change. This card reminds us that the meaning of life is entirely within us and the meaning that we choose to give it. Choose wisely.
